New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will be cremated with full military honors at Nigambodh Ghat in New Delhi on Saturday. He died on Thursday night at Delhi AIIMS.
The Union Home Ministry has announced that Dr. Manmohan Singh will be given a full state funeral. His last rites will be performed at Nigambodh Ghat on 28 December 2024 (Saturday) at 11.45 am. The Defense Ministry has been requested to make arrangements for a state funeral with full military honors.
It is noteworthy that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh (92) breathed his last on Thursday at AIIMS in Delhi. He was unwell for some time. This year he also said goodbye to parliamentary politics. Dr. Manmohan Singh, who was a Rajya Sabha MP for a long time, ended his term as an MP on 3 April 2024. After this, he decided not to continue this journey and said goodbye to parliamentary politics forever. This was the last innings as an MP for Manmohan Singh, who was the Prime Minister of the country twice.
The former Prime Minister was among the few leaders of the country who remained a Rajya Sabha MP for a long time. He was a Rajya Sabha MP for about 33 years. He introduced new financial and administrative reforms in the Indian economy. He became a member of the Rajya Sabha for the first time in the year 1991. In the same year, he was the Finance Minister in the then Narasimha Rao government from 1991 to 1996 and then the Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. His death has ended an era of transformational leadership in the country.
