Kapurthala: Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh died at the age of 92 on Thursday night in AIIMS, Delhi. His sister in Kapurthala, Punjab is in a bad condition due to crying. His sister Amarjit Kaur’s tears are not stopping while remembering her elder brother.
Amarjit Kaur, who has been ill for some time, told that family members will go to the last rites of the former PM. She said that it is a matter of pride for the family that he was the Prime Minister of the country twice. Despite being the PM, his nature was very simple. The Prime Minister’s nephew said that whenever he used to come to Amritsar, he used to call all the family members to the rest house and meet them there. Four years ago when he came to Amritsar, he met him.
It is worth mentioning that former PM Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister from the year 2004 to 2014. He entered politics in the year 1991 when on 21 June, P.V. He was made the Finance Minister in Narasimha Rao’s government. At that time the country was facing a serious economic crisis. Together with P.V. Narasimha Rao, he cleared the way for foreign investment. As Finance Minister, he implemented economic liberalization policies in the country, which encouraged foreign investment and connected India to the world market.
He became a Rajya Sabha MP from Assam for the first time in 1991. He made many reforms to improve the country’s economy, which improved India’s economy.
He was also the Leader of the Opposition from 1998 to 2004. However, after the Congress Party won the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, he took oath as the 14th Prime Minister. He held the post of Prime Minister in UPA-1 and 2. Manmohan Singh took oath as Prime Minister for the first time on 22 May 2004 and for the second time on 22 May 2009.
