New Delhi | Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Monday that farmers are getting one and a half times the minimum support price (MSP) of their crops. During the budget speech in Lok Sabha, the Finance Minister announced that procurement of crops on MSP from farmers will continue. Presenting the procurement figures on MSP of paddy and wheat, the Finance Minister said that this year more than Rs 1,72,000 crore will be spent on the purchase of paddy. Similarly, more than Rs 62,000 crore has been spent on wheat procurement.
MSP is also one of the two major demands of agitating farmers on the borders of Delhi, the capital of the country. Agitating farmers are demanding a legal guarantee to purchase all notified crops on MSP, while the government has also said that the purchase of crops on MSP will continue.
