New Delhi, October 20: The historic Red Fort grounds in the national capital witnessed spectacular Dussehra celebrations as India’s Vice President, C.P. Radhakrishnan, performed the traditional Ravan Dahan by shooting a ceremonial arrow at the effigy of Ravana during the grand Vijayadashami celebrations organised by the world-famous Luv Kush Ramleela Committee.
National Award-winning Bollywood actress Yami Gautam Dhar and renowned filmmaker Aanand L Rai also participated in the celebrations, shooting ceremonial arrows at effigies symbolising evil and demonic forces, conveying the timeless message of the triumph of truth over falsehood and good over evil.
Thousands of spectators gathered at the historic Red Fort grounds to witness the magnificent celebrations. The atmosphere resonated with thunderous chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ as the effigies went up in flames, marking the symbolic destruction of arrogance, injustice and evil.
This year’s Luv Kush Ramleela carried a special theme, ‘Respect for Women’ (Mahila Samman), highlighting the importance of women’s dignity, empowerment and their significant role in society.
Actress Yami Gautam Dhar was specially invited to represent the women of India during the celebrations. Her participation added a powerful dimension to the traditional festivities, reinforcing the message that women are not only symbols of compassion and strength but also possess the courage to stand against injustice and social evils.
Interestingly, Yami Gautam was recently seen performing Ravan Vadh in a sequence from her film “Nayyi Navelli “. Her participation in the historic Dussehra celebrations brought that cinematic moment to life before thousands of spectators at Delhi’s iconic Red Fort grounds.
Speaking on the occasion, Arjun Kumar, President of the Luv Kush Ramleela Committee, said, “It is a matter of immense pride and honour for us that Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, graced our Dussehra celebrations and performed Ravan Dahan. His presence made this historic occasion even more memorable.”
He further added, “Our theme this year is ‘Respect for Women’. Through Yami Gautam’s participation, we wanted to convey that women represent courage, dignity and strength. Ravana is not merely a mythological character but also symbolises arrogance, injustice and the evils prevailing in society. The participation of Yami Gautam sends a strong message of women’s empowerment and their important role in defeating evil.”
Arjun Kumar also expressed his gratitude to filmmaker Aanand L Rai for joining the celebrations and contributing to the spirit of this grand cultural occasion.
Over the years, the prestigious Luv Kush Ramleela has witnessed the participation of several prominent Bollywood personalities in its traditional Ravan Dahan celebrations, including Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, John Abraham, Prabhas, Kareena Kapoor and filmmaker Rohit Shetty.
The presence of Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Yami Gautam Dhar and Aanand L Rai made this year’s Vijayadashami celebrations particularly special.
The grand event concluded amid spectacular festivities, enthusiastic applause and chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’, once again showcasing the richness of India’s cultural heritage while spreading a powerful message of truth, righteousness, women’s dignity and the eternal victor
