Opposition preparing to bring a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker

New Delhi | The opposition is considering moving a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for not allowing opposition leaders to speak in the lower house of parliament and not accepting adjournment notices. Sources gave this information. The opposition is fuming over the disqualification of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and alleged that the decision was taken in haste.

During the meeting of the opposition, it was considered that the motion of no confidence should be brought on next Monday. Signatures of MPs are being taken to garner support on the proposal.

Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as an MP 24 hours after he was convicted by a Surat court on Friday.

Gujarat’s Surat district court on March 23 convicted the Congress MP in a criminal defamation case over his 2019 remarks on ‘The Modi surname’.

He has been convicted under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code. The maximum punishment under this section is imprisonment for two years.

Bharatiya Janata Party MLA and former Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi filed a case against Rahul Gandhi for his statement, “How all thieves have Modi as their surname..”.
