New Delhi, August 21 . Opposition’s Vice President candidate retired Supreme Court Justice B Sudarshan Reddy will file his nomination papers on Thursday. August 21 is the last date for nomination. At the same time, the candidature can be withdrawn till August 25. Elections are to be held on September 9. Counting of votes will also be done on the day of voting.

Reddy has also been the Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court and the first Lokayukta of Goa. He hails from Andhra Pradesh. He was appointed as a Supreme Court judge in 2007. Reddy will have a direct contest with NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan. Both the candidates are from South India. Radhakrishnan filed his nomination on Wednesday.

In fact, the Vice President election is being held due to Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation on July 21. Dhankhar’s term was till August 10, 2027.

Before the nomination, on Wednesday, the leaders of ‘India Alliance’ met B. A felicitation ceremony was organized in honour of Sudarshan Reddy. The ceremony took place in the Central Hall of the Parliament House complex, where Reddy was felicitated. Opposition parties termed his candidature as a historic and important step.
