President Murmu leaves for historic visit to African countries Algeria, Mauritania and Malawi

New Delhi, October 13  President Draupadi Murmu left on her official visit to Algeria, Mauritania and Malawi on Sunday. This is the first visit of an Indian head of state to three African countries simultaneously.

President Murmu will reach Algeria on October 13 on the invitation of Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebboune. She will stay in this African country till October 15. This information was given by the Ministry of External Affairs.

This visit will further strengthen the cordial relations between India and Algeria. Both the countries will come closer in strategic areas like oil, gas, defense and space cooperation.

During this visit of President Draupadi Murmu, bilateral talks will be held between the two presidents.

Several Algerian dignitaries, including the presidents of the Council of Nation (upper house of the Algerian parliament) and the National People’s Assembly (lower house), will also attend the meeting.

In addition, President Murmu will address the India-Algeria Economic Forum and the Sidi Abdellah University of Science and Technology. She will also inaugurate the India Corner at the Hamma Garden in the Jardin d’Essai.

After this, the Indian President will travel from this North African country to neighboring Mauritania on October 16. Mauritania is also the President of the African Union at present.

On reaching Mauritania, President Murmu will hold talks with her counterpart Mohammed Ould Sheikh Al Ghazouani. Mauritania Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Djay and Foreign Minister Mohammed Salim Ould Marzouk are expected to meet her.

The President will also interact with the people of the Indian community. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this visit of President Murmu will further strengthen India-Mauritania bilateral relations.

After this, on the invitation of Malawi President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President Murmu will reach the East African country from Mauritania from 17-19 October.

President Murmu will hold meetings with top leaders of Malawi. After this, she will interact with the country’s business and industry leaders and Indian diaspora. In the next phase of her visit, she will also visit cultural and historical places of the country.
