Punjab FC forward Luka Majcen to miss 6-8 weeks of Indian Super League due to injury

Punjab FC forward Luka Majcen will be out of football in the Indian Super League for 6-8 weeks due to an injury he sustained during the season-opening match against Kerala Blasters in Kochi on Sunday.

The Slovenian has suffered two fractures in his jaw and will undergo surgery in the coming days and will remain under the observation of the medical team. He will return to action in 6-8 weeks post-surgery depending on the medical conditions and approval of the medical team.

Speaking on the development, Director of Football, Nikolaos Topoliatis said, “It is unfortunate that we will miss Luka’s services for the upcoming fixtures. It was an unwarranted aggressive foul by a Kerala Blasters player which resulted in Luka suffering an injury and we as a club do not support such aggressive nature of the game which leads to nothing.

I wish him a speedy recovery and to be back in the team as soon as possible.” Luka scored the first goal by converting a penalty and provided an assist for Filip Mrozaljak to score the winning goal against Kerala Blasters to start their ISL campaign with a win. Punjab FC will take on Odisha FC in their next match on Friday, September 20 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.
