New Delhi, Oct. 6 Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has condemned the mistreatment of Supreme Court Chief Justice B.R. Gavai, calling it an attack on the Constitution.
In a statement posted on the social media platform “X,” Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chairperson Sonia Gandhi said, “Words are not enough to condemn the attack on the Chief Justice of India in the Supreme Court. It is an attack not only on him but also on our Constitution.”
She said that Chief Justice Gavai has been very gracious, but the entire nation should stand in solidarity with him with deep anguish and outrage.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, in a post on “X,” said, “The shameful act against Chief Justice Thiru B.R. Gavai inside the Supreme Court is an attack on the highest judicial office in our democracy and should be strongly condemned.”
He said that the Chief Justice’s response with grace, calm, and generosity reflects the strength of the institution, but this should not lead us to take this incident lightly. The reasons given by the attacker for his actions reveal how deeply ingrained the oppressive and hierarchical mindset is in our society. We must foster a culture that respects and protects our institutions and demonstrates maturity in our conduct.
Supreme Court lawyer Rakesh Kishore created a ruckus in the court of Chief Justice B.R. Gavai during a hearing. It is alleged that the lawyer misbehaved with the CJI and also shouted slogans in the court, following which he was taken into custody.
In fact, while the bench headed by the CJI was hearing a mention of a case by lawyers, the lawyer became enraged. It is reported that the lawyer also shouted the slogan “We will not tolerate the insult of Sanatan.” However, CJI Gavai remained calm and continued the hearing.
Following the uproar, the CJI told the lawyers present in the court, “We are not affected by such actions and the hearing will continue. There should be no disruption in the court’s work.”
