The meeting begins in Delhi to discuss next government in Assam

New Delhi | Six days after the victory in the Assam Assembly elections, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reached the national capital on Saturday to discuss the issue of leadership of the next government. To discuss the formation of a new government in Assam, BJP chief J.P. A meeting has already started at Nadda’s residence. The BJP has won the Assam Assembly elections for the second time in a row.

The saffron party did not call its parliamentary board meeting after the election results, which usually announced who would be the chief minister of the state.

The BJP did not announce the chief ministerial candidate before the March-April elections in Assam. The BJP had won 60 seats and its coalition partner AGP won 9 and UPPL won 6 seats.

Along with Sonowal and Sarma, Bimal Bora, Taranga Gogoi, Mukul Lahkar, Mantu Thakuria, Santanu Kalita and Gautam Prasad arrived in Delhi in the morning on a chartered flight.

According to sources, the names of the next chief minister will be discussed in the meeting as six days have passed and no decision has been taken on the formation of a new government in Assam.

An Assam BJP leader said, “Most of the MLAs are in favor of Sarma becoming Chief Minister. Sarma is also popular among the masses for making tireless efforts to control Kovid.”

A former Congress leader who joined the BJP in 2015, Sarma was instrumental in the formation of the BJP government in 2016. He has become one of the most prominent faces of the party in the state and the entire North East region. He is also the convenor of the North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA).
