Tight security for Friday prayers in UP

Lucknow | After the violence in Kanpur on June 3, the Uttar Pradesh Police has issued instructions to all district police chiefs to tighten security around mosques for Friday prayers. According to a government spokesperson, Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) has been imposed in Kanpur and Lucknow to prevent crowding on roads and public places.

Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Law and Order Prashant Kumar said that police have been deployed strategically in sensitive areas and places of worship.

Prashant Kumar said that the police officers are in touch with the clerics and other leaders of the group to maintain peace and communal harmony.

The ADG said that special deployment has been made in sensitive districts including Firozabad, Shamli, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Agra, Ayodhya, and Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Kanpur and Lucknow.

The ADG said that 12 companies of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) are already camping in Kanpur, while some companies have been sent to sensitive districts.

Tight security arrangements have been made in Kanpur with the deployment of 12 companies of PAC, three additional IPS officers and two companies of Rapid Action Force.
