Unnao (Uttar Pradesh) | On the Lucknow-Kanpur highway in Unnao district late on Sunday night, a speeding truck rammed into a car and then crushed the pedestrians. Six people died due to this. As soon as the information about the accident was received, the police reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals. The accident happened near the Azad Marg intersection under Achalganj police station on the Lucknow-Kanpur highway.
A speeding dumper hit a car and a bike at the Azad Marg intersection and later mowed down pedestrians. Meanwhile, the dumper fell into the ditch, dragging the four-wheeler.
About four to five people are said to be trapped in the car that came under the grip of the truck.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Shashi Shekhar Singh reached the spot and took stock of the rescue operation. After the accident, the locals blocked the highway.
The angry locals of the area pelted stones and also vandalized a highway bus.
The angry mob also thrashed a constable who tried to stop them.
Heavy police forces reached the spot and restored traffic on the highway.
