Two soldiers martyred, two porters killed in terrorist attack in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 24 Two soldiers were martyred and two civilian porters were killed while three other soldiers were injured when an Army vehicle was fired upon in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

Terrorists opened fire on a vehicle of the Rashtriya Rifles (RR) at Nagin Chowk in Boota Pathri area near Gulmarg ski resort in the evening, official sources said.

“Two soldiers and two civilian porters were killed and three soldiers were injured in the attack. The area has been cordoned off and reinforcements have been rushed in,” an official said.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attack. “There is very unfortunate news of an attack on Army vehicles in the Buta Pathri area of ​​North Kashmir, resulting in some casualties and injuries. This series of recent attacks in Kashmir is a matter of grave concern. I strongly condemn this attack and offer my condolences to the loved ones of those who lost their lives. I also pray that the injured recover fully and quickly,” he said in a post on Twitter.

The attack on the Army vehicle on Thursday took place in a usually terror-free area of ​​the Valley. Its upper reaches like Gulmarg and Buta Pathri are frequented by tourists and are a favourite of nature lovers.

In an earlier update, the Baramulla police had said that “some exchange of fire took place between security forces and terrorists” around Nagin Post in the Buta Pathri sector and further details would be shared after confirming the facts.

Earlier on Thursday, terrorists shot and injured a labourer from Uttar Pradesh in Tral area of ​​Pulwama district. The labourer suffered minor injuries.

Terrorists had attacked a workers’ camp of a private infrastructure company in Gagangir area of ​​Ganderbal district on Sunday. Seven people, including six non-local workers and a local doctor, were killed in that cowardly attack carried out by two foreign terrorists. The attack was carried out on innocent, unarmed workers engaged in constructing a tunnel at Z-Morh on the Srinagar-Leh national highway, after completion of which the Srinagar-Sonamarg road will be open for all seasons and the tourist destination of Sonamarg will also be open for tourists in all seasons. The construction of the tunnel from Z-Morh to Sonamarg will boost the local economy and also create employment opportunities for the local youth.
