UGC declared 21 universities across the country as fake

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has declared 21 universities running from different places across the country as fake. These universities include All India Institute of Public Health Science University in Delhi, National University of Electro Complex Homeopathy Kanpur, Vishwakarma Open University for Self Employment India Commercial University Limited, United Nations University, Vocational University, ADR Centric Juridical University, Indian Institute of Science. and Engineering and Spiritual Universities. Gandhi Hindi Vidyapeeth Prayag is among the fake universities registered in the list from Uttar Pradesh Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose University Aligarh and Indian Council of Education Faizabad. While issuing an official letter in this regard, UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain said that all these universities which have been declared fake cannot award degrees to the students. According to the UGC, the special thing is that most of the universities declared fake is in the capital of the country, Delhi is the second largest number of fake universities in Uttar Pradesh after Delhi.

UGC has issued clear guidelines for all the students across the country saying that All India Institute of Public Physical Health Science University, National University of Electro Complex Homeopathy Kanpur, Vishwakarma Open University for Self Employment India Commercial University Limited, United Nations University, Vocational University, ADR Centric Juridical University, Indian Institute of Science and Engineering and Spiritual University. Gandhi Hindi Vidyapeeth Prayag, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose University Aligarh and Bharatiya Shiksha Parishad Faizabad should not enroll any student in the fake universities listed from Uttar Pradesh because all these universities are completely unrecognized and fake.

In the public notice issued by the UGC about fake universities, it is informed to the students and the general public that these 21 universities in different parts of the country are running without any recognition and have no relation to the UGC. Not only this, the University Grants Commission says that all these fake universities are also violating the University Grants Commission Act 1956. Most of these are 8 in Delhi, 4 in Uttar Pradesh, 2 each in West Bengal and Odisha and one each in Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh.

UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain, while issuing a letter in this regard, said that according to Article 22 (1) of the University Grants Commission Act 1956, universities established under Central, State, Provincial Acts or under Article 3 of the University Grants Commission Only established deemed universities can award degrees to students. These institutions have been empowered by an Act of Parliament to do so. According to Article 23 of the University Grants Commission, the use of the word ‘University’ by any institution other than the above is completely wrong and unqualified.
