Mumbai: Actor and filmmaker Sachin Pilgaonkar shared an amusing anecdote from the shoot of his hit Marathi comedy film, ‘Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi’. He revealed that when he was dressed in a saree for his role in the film, even his own mother-in-law failed to recognize him.
On the film’s set, when Sachin touched her feet and asked if she didn’t recognize him, she was left completely stunned. Sachin recounted this incident on the quiz show ‘Kaun Honar Crorepati’, hosted by actress Madhuri Dixit.
In an upcoming episode of the show, Sachin Pilgaonkar and actress Madhurani Gokhale will appear as guests. Both engaged in a conversation with the show’s host, Madhuri Dixit, while seated on the ‘hot seat’. It was during this interaction that Sachin recalled this funny incident from the film’s shoot.
Sachin shared, “Once, my mother-in-law came to visit me on the film’s set. At that time, I was dressed in a saree for my character. She called my wife, Supriya, over and asked, ‘Who is that woman standing next to you?’ I then leaned down to touch her feet and asked, ‘Mother, didn’t you recognize me?’ She was absolutely taken aback.”
Sachin’s look in a saree became one of the most memorable aspects of the film ‘Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi’. Released in 1988, this Marathi comedy was directed by Sachin Pilgaonkar and produced by Kiran Shantaram. The story revolves around four friends who are searching for a house to rent.
A humorous twist occurs when the landlady makes it clear that she will only rent her property to married couples. To secure the house, two of the friends disguise themselves as women and pretend to be the wives of their friends. Following this, a series of misunderstandings and amusing incidents begins.
