New Delhi: India’s star female wrestlers Babita Phogat and Geeta Phogat’s maternal sister Ritika Phogat have committed suicide after losing the match in a wrestling tournament. His move shocked the family as well as the sports community. 17-year-old Ritika took part in the State Level Sub Junior Tournament held at Lohagad in Bharatpur, Rajasthan. Ritika lost by one point in the final match of this tournament. Disappointed with this defeat, he hanged himself and laid down his life.
According to reports, Ritika committed suicide by hanging herself at around 11 pm on Wednesday night. He took wrestling training with his Fufa and Dronacharya Awardee coach Mahabir Phogat. Mahabir was also present during the match on the day of the final.
Ritu Phogat has mourned the death of Ritika. She wrote on Twitter, “May God bless the soul of little sister Ritika. I still can’t believe what happened to you. You will always remember us.”
