Chennai: Bengaluru’s 16-year-old talented driver Abhay Mohan won the prestigious Formula 1600 National Championship by registering ten consecutive wins in the fourth and final round of the MMSC Indian National Car Racing Championship concluded on Sunday. This is also his first national title.
2022 Junior National Karting Champion Abhay came to single seater racing only this year. He performed brilliantly and dominated completely. His winning streak continued in every race till the last race of the final round.
After this achievement, Abhay Mohan said, “This is my first year in single seater formula cars, but it has been a memorable season. It feels really great to become the National Champion and win 10 consecutive wins. After so much hard work, the support I got from my parents, family, friends and JA Motorsports has been amazing. I would like to thank all of them and my mechanics for their great work.” He won 10 consecutive races and lost points only after winning the championship. In the championship which had a total of 12 races, he outdid other competitors with his driving skills. Two Mumbai drivers Jahan Commissariat and Raj Bakhru finished second and third in the championship.
Born in 2008, Abhay had turned to NIOS home schooling to focus on racing. He won 11 of the 12 races and scored 293 out of 300 points. The final race was red flagged and restarted from the pit lane. In this race, Abhay kept his composure and won at the end of his first championship.
