New Delhi| Delhi Police said on Wednesday that it has arrested 4 smugglers along with a few bottles of liquor and beer. One of them also had a media ID card from NDTV, which turned out to be fake. South Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Atul Kumar Thakur said that during the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday, the police received information that some liquor smugglers were selling liquor at very high prices. All liquor shops in the national capital are closed due to the ongoing lockdown.
According to the police, the accused persons used to supply liquor from their vehicles. They used to come to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on behalf of South Extension.
Thakur said a trap was laid, under which four people were caught along with a Toyota Fortuner and three Scotties. After searching the vehicles 42 bottles of beer, four bottles of Royal Stag whiskey, four bottles of Magic Moment vodka, six quarters of Royal Stag whiskey, 2 quarters of double blue whiskey and three-quarters of McDowell’s whiskey were recovered.
Those arrested have been identified as Amit Malik alias Gagan Malik (36), Ram Ashish (25), Pawan Kaushik (41) and Mohit Basoya (21).
The DCP said Basoya is an employee of the Delhi Civil Defense, who was an assistant to the three other accused and helped them escape when they were stopped by the police while supplying liquor.
Thakur said that Kaushik had a fake press ID card of the cameraperson in NDTV.
