Sad moment for Britain: new king mourns the death of mother Elizabeth II

London, September 9: The 73-year-old Prince Charles, who was the longest heir to the crown in the country’s history for 70 years, will now sit on the British throne. In a statement released by Buckingham Palace, the new king shared: “The death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty the Queen, is a moment of great sadness for me and all members of my family.”

“We deeply mourn the passing of a cherished sovereign and a very dear mother. I know this loss will be deeply felt by countless people across the nation and the Commonwealth and around the world.”

Charles wrote, “During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and supported by the Queen’s so widely respected and deeply loved.”

Queen Elizabeth II (96) passed away. Before him, Queen Victoria ruled for 63 years i.e. till 1901.

Elizabeth was also Queen of Canada, Australia and New Zealand, among other territories.

Elizabeth breathed her last at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, one of her four ‘royal’ residences and possibly one of her favourites. His family members reached far and wide to be with him in the last moments.

In addition to Charles, his eldest son William, Charles’ sister Anne, brothers Andrew and Edward and his wife Camilla were present.

William’s younger brother Harry, who now lives in the US, was supposed to attend an event in London, but he canceled his event at Balmoral to be with the rest of the family.

Elizabeth was exceptionally popular among her people. But the same cannot be said of Charles. However, now he will have the opportunity to prove himself and gain more confidence of British citizens.

A ‘YouGov’ poll put Charles’ popularity among British people at 42 per cent, with 24 per cent disliking him and 30 per cent neutral. He has been a tireless campaigner for the environment for decades. He also values organic food and classical architecture.
