Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurates 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention in Odisha

PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, celebrating India’s global diaspora. The event, themed “Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat,” brought together participants from over 50 countries.

PM Modi lauded Grammy-winner Ricky Kej for his musical tribute to the diaspora and thanked Chief Guest Christine Carla Kangaloo, President of Trinidad & Tobago, for her message on India’s progress. He highlighted India’s heritage, citing Odisha’s historic sites like the Konark Sun Temple, Udayagiri caves, and Bali Yatra, which celebrates ancient maritime trade.

The PM emphasized India’s rapid development, including its rise as the world’s 5th largest economy, advancements in technology, and global recognition of Indian talent. He urged the diaspora to promote “Made in India” products and India’s rich heritage, while contributing to India’s growth through initiatives like skilling programs and heritage tourism.

A highlight of the event was the launch of the Pravasi Bharatiya Express, a special tourist train connecting the diaspora to key cultural and religious sites in India. PM Modi concluded by urging the diaspora to strengthen global ties and wished them a prosperous 2025.
