SANTIAGO | The tremors were felt in Chile’s Araucania region. Its intensity measured 6.7 on the Richter scale. Chilean officials said no immediate reports of casualties or property damage were received. The National Seismological Center of the University of Chile reported that the epicenter of the earthquake Sunday was recorded in the Pacific Ocean, 144 kilometers from the Toulton municipality, Xinhua reported.
The earthquake, which had a depth of 26.5 km, was felt in the neighboring areas of Los Lagos and Biobio.
Meanwhile, the Naval Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service said a tsunami is unlikely to occur in Chile due to the earthquake.
Located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, Chile is considered one of the most earthquake-prone countries.
