New Delhi, January 28. The issue of water is getting deeper and hotter just before the Delhi Assembly elections. Regarding this issue, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwat Singh Mann had also written a letter to the Election Commission and sought time to meet them. After meeting the Election Commissioner at the Election Commission on Tuesday, both the Chief Ministers said that the issue will be resolved after the Election Commission’s meeting with the Haryana Chief Minister. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi said that she and Bhagwant Mann met the Chief Election Commissioner as well as other officials. There has been a long discussion on the issue of water in Delhi. We told the Election Commission how the ammonia level in the water coming from Haryana into the Yamuna has become ‘poisonous’.
He also said that the water treatment plants of the national capital Delhi can treat ammonia from one ppm to two ppm, but the ammonia level has been continuously increasing for the last few days and has reached 7 ppm. We have requested that if poisonous water continues to come like this, many of our water treatment plants will shut down completely and 30 percent of Delhi will not get water. He said that the Election Commission has assured us that this is a very important issue. It is an issue related to the life and death of the people.
The Commission has assured that whatever decision will be taken in the interest of the people of Delhi, the Election Commission will announce it after listening to Haryana’s side. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said that we have never reduced water to such a level that we give them as much as they deserve. If polluted water comes, it is dangerous. The Election Commission has said that we will get it tested to see how much ammonia is there at the point from where they are releasing water to Delhi. He said that we should be given additional water from the Munak Canal, so that the problem of the people of Delhi is solved.
