Ban on the program regarding ‘The Bengal Files’, Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri angrily said – ‘The trailer will be launched in Kolkata only’

Mumbai: The trailer of famous filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s upcoming film ‘The Bengal Files’ was to be launched in Kolkata on Saturday. But today the filmmaker was told that the venue of his program has been cancelled. Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri himself has shared this information with the people through a video. He has shared this video on ‘X’.

In the caption of this video, he wrote, “I have just reached Kolkata and I came to know that the venue where the trailer of ‘The Bengal Files’ was to be launched has been cancelled. Who is it that wants to silence us and why? But, I cannot be silenced because the voice of truth cannot be suppressed. The trailer will be launched in Kolkata tomorrow. Please share this video and support us.”

In this video Vivek says, “Friends, I have just reached Kolkata, as you know we had decided that we will launch the trailer of ‘The Bengal Files’ in Kolkata. Because this film is based on Direct Action Day and tomorrow is 16th August and there can be no better day and place than this to launch it.”

He further said, “But, as soon as I reached here I got a bad news. Our trailer was going to be launched in a very big cinema hall, it is a very big cinema chain of India. We had all the permissions, so our whole team came here. But I have just come to know that that program has been cancelled and it has been cancelled because there is a lot of political pressure on them, they do not want any kind of political controversy. They have to work here, so it will not be right for them. And this is not in the writing. I understand their compulsion, why would any business house do such a thing which will create a big problem for them in the future.”

He further says, “But, the question is who are those people, what is this political pressure, and which is this party that wants to suppress our voice. The trailer of the film which no one has seen, which has been passed by the censor board, is not being allowed to be released. Earlier, so many FIRs were filed against us. When we reached here after making all the arrangements, we are being told that we cannot hold the program. This is a very sad thing. Are there two constitutions in our country, one for the whole country and one for Bengal. I am also not going to give up friends, we have decided and now whatever we have to do, however we have to do it, we will launch it in Kolkata only. I will tell you the place, you support us so that the bitter truth of India’s history comes out in front of everyone.”

Along with this, he said to wait till Saturday. ‘The Bengal Files’ is one of the most talked about films of this year. This film shows the painful events of Bengal’s ‘Direct Action Day’ and the Calcutta riots of 1946.

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri has written and directed ‘The Bengal Files’. The film stars Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Anupam Kher and Darshan Kumar. Presented by Tej Narayan Agarwal and I Am Buddha, the film will release in theaters on September 5, 2025.
