Britain approves use of Oxford Covid-19 vaccine

London: Britain on Wednesday approved the Oxford University-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine for use after being cleared by the country’s drug regulator. The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) found that the vaccine met its strict standards of safety, quality and effectiveness.

In the UK, the National Health Service (NHS) has begun its extensive preparations to implement the Oxford University / AstraZeneca vaccine.

This is the second vaccine in the UK after Pfizer, with government approval.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI) has suggested that at-risk groups should be given priority over their first dose, rather than providing the required two doses.

The government said, “Everyone is still to receive their second dose and it will be given within 12 weeks of their first dose. The second dose completes the course and is important for the long term.”

According to the government, “From today onwards the priority of the NHS will be to give the first dose of vaccine to high-risk groups in the UK. Now with the approval of two vaccines, we will be able to vaccinate more and more people who are high Are at risk. –
