The post India got 1.7 crore new jobs between 2016-17 and 2022-23, an increase of 36 percent: Center appeared first on Janmat Samachar.
]]>The average growth rate of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) during the same period was 6.5 percent.
According to the ministry, employment data obtained from the Reserve Bank of India’s KLEMS database shows a steady increase in employment since the 1980s.
The ministry said, “India has registered a significant increase in employment in the last few years. The country’s economic progress reflects sustained job creation in key sectors. With a strong democracy, dynamic economy and a culture that celebrates unity in diversity, India’s journey towards becoming a global superpower continues to inspire the world.”
PLFS data from 2017 to 2023 also shows that the worker population ratio (WPR) has increased from 34.7 per cent to 43.7 during this period, showing an increase of about 26 per cent.
The ministry has pointed out that the country’s economic growth is driven by consumption, which is directly linked to employment. An increase in consumption means that employment is being created. At the same time, if employment generation was mainly in low-wage jobs, consumption would have declined.
Estimates show that for every one per cent increase in gross value added (GVA) during the period 2017-23, jobs increased by 1.11 per cent.
“The supply-side argument that services generate fewer jobs is contrary to these observations. Hence, from both the supply and demand sides, the country’s economic trajectory is not headed towards any kind of unemployment,” the ministry stressed.
The country’s economic performance in FY2023-24 reflects strong growth. Real GDP is projected to grow by 8.2 per cent in FY2023-24 as compared to an economic growth rate of seven per cent in FY2022-23.
Further, nominal GDP is seen growing at a rate of 9.6 per cent in FY2023-24 as compared to a growth rate of 14.2 per cent in FY2022-23.

]]>The Employment Outlook Report for the first half of FY 2025 released by TeamLease Services said that more than three out of every five (about 64 percent) employers in this sector are increasing their workforce due to increasing demand.
The report said that the sector is set for an annual growth rate of 8 to 10 percent, which shows that the industry remains booming. The report further stated that 19 percent of employers want to reduce employees. At the same time, 17 percent of employers do not want to make any change in the number of employees.
Karthik Narayan, Chief Executive, Staffing, TeamLease Services, said that due to the increasing demand for premium travel and technology-based changes, the way the industry operates is changing.
The reason for the increase in employment opportunities in the travel sector is the growth of the domestic travel market and the availability of artificial intelligence (AI)-based tech services such as ghost kitchens and personalized guest experiences.
The report said that 44 percent of employers want to grow their business through digital and offline promotions. It further said that by the end of 2025, the number of gig workers in the industry can increase to 15 to 20 percent. Apart from this, the number of seasonal jobs can increase by 25 to 30 percent during peak season. Four out of every five employers (about 82 percent) in the travel and hospitality sector are giving priority to sales.

]]>This is heartening news for Indians, as they tend to be significantly higher in people from outside countries settling in Canada.
In fact, Indian immigration to Canada has increased rapidly in the last three to four years. While 39,340 Indian expatriates reached Canada in 2016. The figure rose to 85,000 in 2019, registering an increase of 105 percent.
The rapid growth of Indian immigration to Canada includes a number of factors including US policies and lack of IT and healthcare professionals.
Similarly, the number of Indian students coming to Canada has increased from 76,075 in 2016 to 219,855 in 2019, an increase of nearly 300 percent.
Due to a record number of students and newcomers, Indians have become one of the fastest-growing communities in Canada, surpassing 1.6 million in a country of over 37 million.
As Canada’s birth rate has declined, this constitutes 82 percent of the population growth of new immigrants. In addition, new people also bring billions of dollars to Canada each year.
Along with this, sectors like health, information and technology and farming cannot survive without new migrants here.
Since about 60 percent of the immigrants fall in the economic category, they also support the economy by starting new businesses.
Government data stated that more than 33 percent of businesses are owned by new people, as the Canadian ecosystem encourages people to become entrepreneurs, not job seekers.
Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino on Friday highlighted the important role of newcomers while announcing new immigration targets. He said that there is a need to provide skills to our businesses, but this can be done only by starting their own businesses.
