Delhi: Rekha Gupta meets Lt. Governor, stakes claim to form government

New Delhi, Feb 19 Rekha Gupta, elected for the first time as MLA from Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh, met Lt. Governor V.K. Saxena on Wednesday night and staked claim to form government in the state. Earlier, she was elected as the party leader in the BJP Legislature Party meeting in the evening.

Rekha Gupta will take oath as Delhi’s Chief Minister at Ramlila Maidan on Thursday. She had defeated AAP’s Bandana Kumari from Shalimar Bagh seat in the assembly elections by a margin of 29,595 votes.

Rekha Gupta posted on social media platform X after being elected as the leader of Delhi BJP Legislature Party. She wrote, “I express my heartfelt gratitude to all the top leadership for trusting me and entrusting me with the responsibility of the post of Chief Minister. This trust and support of yours has given me new energy and inspiration. I pledge that I will work with full honesty, integrity and dedication for the welfare, empowerment and overall development of every citizen of Delhi. I am fully committed to this important opportunity to take Delhi to new heights.”

Talking about Rekha Gupta’s career, she entered student politics in 1992 while studying at Daulat Ram College of Delhi University. She was associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and became the President of Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) in 1996-97, where she actively raised the issues of students. After being elected councilor from North Pitampura in the year 2007, she worked on the development of facilities like library, park and swimming pool in the area.

She has also been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). For the welfare of women and children, he launched initiatives like the “Sumedha Yojana”, which helped economically weaker girl students to pursue higher education.
