Islamabad, May 5. Earthquake tremors were felt once again in Pakistan on Monday, causing panic among the people. The earthquake occurred around 4:00 pm, measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale.
According to the National Earthquake Center, the epicenter of the earthquake was located in the northern region of Pakistan, at 36.60 degrees north latitude and 72.89 degrees east longitude. The depth of the earthquake was recorded at 10 kilometers. The tremors were so strong that people came out of their homes and offices.
However, there is no news of any loss of life or property so far. The administration is monitoring the situation. Citizens have been appealed to maintain patience and contact the concerned authorities in case of any emergency.
Earlier, strong tremors of earthquake were felt in Pakistan on April 12. The intensity of the earthquake was measured at 5.8 on the Richter scale. Tremors of earthquake were also felt in Jammu and Kashmir.
It was reported that on April 12, at around 1 pm, an earthquake of 5.8 magnitude on the Richter scale occurred at 33.63 degrees north latitude and 72.46 degrees east longitude.
It is noteworthy that earthquakes have caused a lot of devastation in Pakistan. On October 8, 2005, at 8.50 am, an earthquake of 7.6 magnitude on the Richter scale occurred, the epicenter of which was Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). More than 80,000 people were killed on both sides of the Line of Control (LOC). Tremors were also felt in Afghanistan, Tajikistan, India and Xinjiang region.
This was the fifth deadliest natural disaster of the decade. According to sources, the official death toll in this earthquake in Pakistan was between 73,276 to 87,350, while according to some estimates the death toll was more than 1,00,000.
In India, 1,360 people were killed, while 6,266 were injured. Four people died in Afghanistan.
In the 2005 earthquake, 3.5 lakh people were rendered homeless, about 1,38,000 people were injured.
