New Delhi| The Election Commission on Saturday announced the dates for the assembly elections of five states including Uttar Pradesh.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sushil Chandra has announced in a press conference to conduct the assembly elections in seven phases. Polling will be held in seven phases in 403 assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh. In Uttar Pradesh, the first phase of voting is on February 10, while the last phase of voting will be held on March 7. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
In view of the Corona crisis, the commission has also announced guidelines. These guidelines will have to be followed by the candidates and voters in the elections. The term of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly will end on May 14, 2022. Before this, a new government has to be formed in UP.
Elections are to be held in five states in the midst of the Kovid-19 crisis and in view of this, the Election Commission has emphasized on the conduct of polling in different phases.
The Election Commission on Saturday said that no political party is allowed roadshows, vehicle rallies and padayatra till January 15.
The Election Commission also advised all political parties to campaign in virtual (online) mode amid rising cases of Corona and the outbreak of the Omicron variant.
The Election Commission said that they aim to conduct Kovid-safe elections in 5 states with extensive preparation.
