History became, Ritu Khanduri Bhushan became the first woman speaker of Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly

Dehradun | History has been made in Uttarakhand today. Where Ritu Khanduri Bhushan has been declared the Speaker of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly unopposed. In such a situation, Protem Speaker Banshidhar Bhagat announced this.

Congress has not fielded any candidate. Originally from Radhaballabh Puram village of Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, his father Major General (Retd.) Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri was a military officer. After retiring from the army, he contested and won the Lok Sabha elections. He also became a minister in the Vajpayee government. Ritukhanduri was born in Nainital on 29 January 1965 in a military family. Ritu completed her graduation from Raghunath Girls College, Meerut followed by post graduation from Rajasthan University and Diploma in Journalism from Delhi.

Ritu Khanduri’s husband Rajesh Bhushan is an IAS officer of Bihar cadre. And currently he is posted in the Modi government as the Health Secretary at the Center. The BJP leader has also been active in social service for a long time. There is also an ancestral house of Ritu’s in-laws in Khal village located on the Karnprayag-Pokhari motor road.

56-year-old Ritu took her BA Honors degree from Raghunath Girls College, Meerut University in 1986. His father BC Khanduri, who came to politics after retiring from the army, was the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand from 2007 to 2009 and again from 2011 to 2012. He was also a Member of Parliament and a Union Minister. In the 2012 elections, he lost against Surendra Singh Negi from Kotdwar seat despite the slogan ‘Khanduri Hai Zaroori’. From here his political journey almost came to an end. Carrying on his legacy, Ritu entered politics and contested elections for the first time in 2017. After winning from Yamkeshwar, she contested against Negi from Kotdwar seat in 2022 and avenged her father’s defeat. Ritu’s brother Manish Khanduri is in Congress. Manish, who had contested the Lok Sabha elections from Garhwal seat, could not win.
