Hyderabad, Dec 28: Hyderabad FC broke their five-match losing streak in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 when the hosts held East Bengal FC to a 1-1 draw at their home ground, GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium on Saturday.
Midfielder Jeekson Singh scored for East Bengal in the 64th minute while Hyderabad left-back Manoj Mohammed scored the equaliser in the 90th minute. Bissau-Guinean striker Edmilson Correa was adjudged the Player of the Match for providing an assist in the equaliser.
Spanish head coach Oscar Bruzon will surely be disappointed after the Red and Gold brigade conceded a lead and settled for a draw today. East Bengal FC remain 11th in the table with 14 points from 13 matches, including four wins, two draws and seven losses. At the same time, Hyderabad FC’s interim head coach Shamil Chembakath must be feeling relieved after his team’s continuous losing streak ended. Hyderabad FC is placed 12th in the table with eight points from 13 matches, two wins, two draws and nine losses.
The first goal of the match came in the 64th minute, when midfielder Jeakson Singh gave East Bengal FC an early lead, making the score 1-0. Team captain and Brazilian striker Cleiton Silva took a powerful shot on a free-kick outside the box, on which the ball hit the cross bar and on the rebound, Jeakson, who was in the dangerous area of six yards, put the ball into the goal net with a header, while goalkeeper Arshdeep Singh and right-back Abdul Rabih’s defensive efforts went in vain.
In the 90th minute, left-back Manoj Mohammad scored a goal and gave Hyderabad FC a 1-1 draw. Bissau-Guinean striker Edmilson Correa put in a through-pass from outside the box, where Manoj, running from behind, entered the box and shot the ball with his left foot into the bottom right corner while goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Gill had no chance to save it.
This first half, which had the least number of shots (four) this season, was very dull, which ended in a goalless draw, as both the teams were seen playing very defensively and did not show the hunger to break the deadlock and take the lead. Therefore, the score at the half-time break was 0-0. Hyderabad FC had more control of the ball at 58 percent. But the host team was able to make only three attempts, which were directionless. Therefore, the goal did not come.
At the same time, the only attempt made by East Bengal FC, which had 42 percent possession of the ball, was also not on target and the goal did not come. Hence, both the goalkeepers Arshdeep Singh (Hyderabad FC) and Prabhsukhan Gill (East Bengal FC) could not be tested due to the extremely defensive play of both the teams.
This was the ninth match between these two teams in the ISL and the third draw. Hyderabad FC have won four matches while East Bengal FC have won twice.
