New Delhi, September 22 Tuesday was a significant day in the ongoing “Yudh Abhyas 2026” between the Indian and US armies. Howitzers and Dhanush guns were fired at the Mahajan Field Firing Range, along with the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher. Soldiers from both countries conducted a joint firing exercise. During the exercise, Indian and US soldiers trained with various weapon systems. Amid the resounding gunfire at the firing range, both armies closely understood each other’s firing techniques and procedures.
According to the Army, the exercise included firing from the M777 ultra-light howitzer, Dhanush gun, and Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher. L70 air defense guns and M-LIDS systems were also seen in action. A key objective of this joint training was to develop better firing planning, coordination, and synergy.
For this purpose, observation post detachments from both armies also trained together. Soldiers practiced target identification, target location, response procedures, and fire orders. The training also included repeated training to make necessary corrections after firing. This provided soldiers from both armies with an opportunity to gain practical experience with each other’s artillery techniques, communication procedures, and fire control systems.
The exercise integrated the entire process from target identification to firing using various weapon systems. This allowed soldiers from both countries to practice the full range of fire support on the battlefield. This joint training emphasized accuracy, quick reaction, and coordination. It also provided an opportunity to improve shared procedures and operational understanding between the two armies.
The exercise, held at the Mahajan Field Firing Range, reflects the practical training focus of Yudh Abhyas 2026. Indian and American soldiers shared their operational experiences and further strengthened their ability to operate together in complex combat situations. Earlier, trained military dogs from the Indian Army were also part of the ongoing joint military exercise “Yudh Abhyas 2026” between India and the United States. Four military dogs named Rice, Victor, Jack, and Rowdy demonstrated their ability to assist soldiers in special operations.
During the exercise, the dogs participated in exercises such as entering a suspected hideout and descending using a rope. This provided US soldiers with an opportunity to closely observe the training, agility, and ability of Indian Army military dogs to work with soldiers in difficult tactical situations. Two days earlier, the Indian and US armies had also demonstrated their artillery capabilities. Only M777 Ultra Light Howitzers were fired during the ongoing exercise in India.
