New Delhi, . Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday moved the Delhi High Court against his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam and the remand order passed by the trial court.
In his petition, Kejriwal termed the arrest and remand order as ‘illegal’ and claimed that he was entitled to be immediately released from custody.
His legal team said an urgent hearing has been sought from the Acting Chief Justice, if possible on Sunday (March 24).
The ED, which has been granted Kejriwal’s custody till March 28, has alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is the major beneficiary of the proceeds of crime generated in the alleged excise policy scam.
The ED has described Kejriwal as the “key conspirator” in the excise duty policy scam in connivance with AAP ministers, leaders and other persons.
The investigating agency claimed that Kejriwal was directly involved in a ‘conspiracy’ to frame the now defunct excise policy to “benefit certain persons” and “demanded bribes from liquor businessmen in exchange for benefits in the said policy”. He also had a role in.
It added that the policy in question was drafted considering the benefits to be given to the ‘group of the South’. This policy was formulated with the connivance of Vijay Nair, Manish Sisodia and members/representatives of the ‘Group of the South’.
“Therefore, not only you, but also Arvind Kejriwal will be held guilty of offenses punishable under Section 4 of the PMLA, and will be prosecuted and punished under Section 70 of the PMLA,” the ED said.
