Lok Sabha adjourned for the day amid opposition’s demand to sack Ajay Mishra

New Delhi| The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Friday amid continuous uproar by the opposition demanding the dismissal of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case. Rajendra Agrawal, who was holding the Speaker’s chair soon after the House resumed proceedings at 2 pm after the first adjournment, asked for papers or documents to be laid on the Table of the House amid the uproar.

He also asked the ministers to introduce the listed bills. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur introduced the National Anti-Doping Bill, 2021 to regulate anti-doping activities in sports, while Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupendra Yadav introduced the Wildlife (Protection) Amendment Bill, 2021.

During the proceedings of the House, the opposition members continued to raise slogans against the government, thereby disrupting the proceedings of the House. Amid the uproar, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the Chartered Accountants, Cost and Works Accountants and Company Secretaries (Amendment) Bill, 2021.

The Chairman also asked the House to consider the amendments of the Rajya Sabha with respect to the Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2019 and during this the amendments made by the Upper House were taken up and the House voted by voice vote to be part of the Surrogacy (Amendment) Bill, 2019. Amendment 7(a) and Amendment No. 32 have been adopted for this purpose.

Agarwal again asked the members to cooperate in the working of the House, as several important legislations were listed for discussion. “Please go back to your seats and participate in the discussion,” Agarwal urged the opposition parties.

Despite the request of the Chair, the protesting members continued their protest against the government, raising slogans and displaying placards in the Well.

When his repeated appeals had no effect on the opposition, Agarwal adjourned the house till 11 am on Monday.

Earlier in the day, after the proceedings of the House began at 11 am, the business was repeatedly disrupted as opposition parties continued their arguments demanding the sacking of Mishra.

The opposition continued its protest since Wednesday after the Uttar Pradesh SIT termed the Lakhimpur Kheri incident as a “pre-planned” conspiracy. Mishra’s son has already been arrested as an accused in the case.
