Most of them are from Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Terai region, he said. We are trying to find out if there are more such people.
State Home Department sources, however, did not rule out the possibility of the presence of more people in troubled Afghanistan, which was taken over by the Taliban on Sunday.
A senior official of the state home department said, “We have been able to get this information in a very short time. We have asked the district administration to find out if there are more people in Afghanistan from the state.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, Banerjee had asked the home department to find out how many Bengalis were stranded in Afghanistan and accordingly the department immediately informed all the districts.
“We have asked the district magistrates to directly inform the top administration officials if anyone comes and inform them that their relatives are stranded there, including their names, addresses, whereabouts in Afghanistan, phone numbers and other details,” the official said. be involved. After this, that information will be sent directly to Delhi.
“At present, New Delhi is working rapidly to bring all Indians from Afghanistan to their home countries safely,” he said. Therefore, if any person of the state is found trapped there, then his information will be given directly to Delhi. Kolkata Police officials are also trying to find out whether any residents of the city or their relatives are trapped in Afghanistan.
