Mukul Roy’s return to Trinamool, Mamta said, more BJP leaders will also join the party

Kolkata| In a major setback to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal, it’s All India Vice President and MLA Mukul Roy has once again joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) while returning home. Nearly four years after leaving the Trinamool to join the saffron brigade, Roy on Friday joined the Trinamool Congress once again along with his son Subhranshu Roy.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who was present at the Trinamool Bhavan during the meeting to bring Roy back into the party, said more people would exit the BJP and join the Trinamool Congress.

On the return of Roy and his son to Trinamool, they were welcomed by All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

On this occasion, Mamata Banerjee said, “Mukul (Roy) is our old member and he is back now. He was not in a good position in the BJP as the saffron party had put pressure on him through agencies, as a result, he was not mentally calm. I see that his health had also deteriorated because no one can stay in BJP. It is a heartless party and no human can live there.

Roy, who left the Trinamool Congress in 2017, said, “I feel good to be among familiar people again. It has a kind of homely atmosphere. I am confident that under the leadership of our leader and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal will once again rise to the top.

Asked why he returned to the Trinamool, the former All India General Secretary of the party said, “I will not work for the BJP again, so I am back here.”

Denying any differences with Roy while in the BJP, Mamata Banerjee said, “Even when he was in the BJP, he never said anything against me or the party.” He has always been good with our party leaders. Even when there were elections, he was silent about our party.

Hinting that more BJP leaders are likely to join the Trinamool, the Chief Minister said, the Trinamool will welcome all people who are calm and gentle. But there are some people who betrayed the party and defamed the Trinamool leaders before the elections. They are treacherous and the party will never accept them.
