Islamabad| Former Pakistan Information and Broadcasting Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said on Sunday that the federal cabinet has been dissolved, but Prime Minister Imran Khan will continue with his duties under Article 224 of the Constitution. Hussain, however, did not give further details.
Earlier on Sunday, National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri rejected the much-awaited motion of no-confidence against the prime minister, saying it was contrary to Article 5 of the Constitution.
In a televised address minutes after the dismissal, Khan announced that he had advised President Alvi to dissolve all assemblies, paving the way for mid-term elections.
Taking note of the motion, the President dissolved the National Assembly and according to sources elections would be held within a period of 90 days.
