Tokyo | India’s Avani Lekhra on Monday won the country’s first gold medal in the women’s 10m air rifle SH1 at the Tokyo Paralympic Games with a world record score of 249.6. Avani, 19, was injured in a car accident in 2012. Avani qualified for the final in seventh place, but reached the top with a brilliant effort in the final.
Chinese female shooter Zhang Kuiping finished second with a score of 248.9. While Irina Shetnik of Ukraine finished third with a total of 227.5 points.
With this, India has won the fifth medal in the Tokyo Paralympics. Earlier today, Yogesh Kathunia won a silver medal in the men’s discus throw F56 category.
