Plan ready for ‘integrated command centre’ to tackle waterlogging in Delhi: Pravesh Verma

New Delhi, May 5  Delhi government minister Pravesh Verma talked about setting up a unified command centre to tackle the problem of waterlogging in the national capital. He said that the Centre, Delhi government and municipal corporation, all three are led by the same party, which will facilitate coordination and there will be no situation of allegations and counter-allegations.

The aim of this initiative is to provide a single contact number to Delhiites for waterlogging complaints and bring all the concerned departments together.

Pravesh Verma said that our vision for Delhi is that all three governments are of the same party, so the coordination between them is very good. Right now, there is no allegations and counter-allegations. In the storm that we saw four days ago, we saw that every department has its own complaint centre, where calls come. We are working to create an integrated system. The command centre already present in the New Delhi Municipal Council’s (NDMC) Smart City Building will be used for this integrated system. The centre will coordinate the work of NDMC, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Flood Control Department and Jal Board.

He said, “We will give Delhiites a number for complaints of waterlogging, through which the call will be diverted to the concerned department. The Chief Minister can use this centre to monitor the situation and give instructions.”

He further said that apart from this, CCTV footage from all over Delhi will be collected in this centre so that the situation can be monitored quickly. Work is also going on to automate pump stations. The existing 311 helpline can be used for this. A meeting will be held with all the concerned departments in the next two-three days, in which responsibilities will be assigned to the agencies. The plan includes upgrading the server, collecting data feed from all departments and installing CCTV cameras in sensitive areas. The aim is to complete all these works before the monsoon so that the problem of waterlogging in Delhi can be dealt with effectively.

He expressed confidence that this integrated system will provide relief to Delhiites from the problems faced during monsoon.
