Sardar Patel: The Iron man of India, Why National Unity Day is being celebrated?

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, our iron man of India. born on 31st October 1875 – 15 December 1950. Remembered as a motivating and inspiring freedom fighter. Contributed his life to the Indian freedom movement, Sardar Patel was the first Home Minister of India,  in the year of 15 August 1947 to 12 December 1950. Also, he was the deputy prime minister of India.

He not only played an important role in India’s struggle for independence but also played the role in uniting India after independence that is why he was also called ‘Unifier of India’. He also joined The Non – Cooperation Movement started by Mahatma Gandhi. On 31 October, the birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is celebrated as “National Unity Day”.

After the success of the Bardoli Satyagraha movement, Mahatma Gandhi gave the title of Sardar to Vallabhbhai Patel. Bharat Ratna was awarded posthumously to Sardar Patel in 1991. Vallabhbhai Patel was a successful barrister, politician, and activist.
