KOLKATA| Claiming that democracy and fundamental rights of the people are being continuously crushed these days, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday that her government is committed to upholding the human rights of the people. Banerjee tweeted, “Today is Human Rights Day. Nowadays there is a big trend to crush democracy, fundamental rights and suppress the voice of the people. Our government is committed to upholding human rights.”

He said that the state government has established 19 human rights courts in Bengal in the last nine and a half years.

Wishing everyone on International Human Rights Day, the Chief Minister said, “After repeated protests and agitations from my side, the West Bengal Human Rights Commission was established in 1995.
