Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup: India retains title by defeating South Africa

Kuala Lumpur, 19 Women’s T20 World Cup title again. India defeated South Africa by nine wickets in the final played at Bayumas Oval on Sunday.

India’s spin bowlers performed brilliantly and took a total of nine wickets, out of which three were taken by Trisha. Due to good fielding, the Indian team bundled out South Africa for just 82 runs. This score was not big on a slow pitch.

Trisha scored an unbeaten 44 off 33 balls for the Indian team chasing the target, while Sanika Chalke remained unbeaten after scoring 26 off 22 balls. India achieved the target in 11.2 overs and won the title for the second consecutive time. Earlier, India won this trophy in South Africa in 2023.

This victory once again proved that India’s dominance in Under-19 women’s cricket remains. The special thing was that India did not lose a single match in the tournament and became the first team to win the title by winning all the matches.

Chasing the target of 83 runs, Trisha started by hitting a four past the wicketkeeper. Then she sent Faye Cowling’s balls across the boundary line twice in the cover area. After this, G. Kamalini hit a four over mid-on off Kayla Reneke’s ball.

Trisha played brilliant shots on Seshani Naidu’s leg-spin balls and India’s score was 36 runs without any loss in four overs.

Kamalini was out after scoring eight runs in the fifth over when she tried to send Kayla’s ball across the boundary, but was caught at long-on. After this, Sanika hit a brilliant four between cover and mid-off, while Trisha took four more runs by playing a beautiful shot between deep midwicket and long-on.

Sanika brought the team closer to victory by hitting a four over Ashley van Wyk. Then both the batsmen rotated the strike well. Sanika sent Gemma Botha’s ball across the boundary, then Trisha hit a four past the wicketkeeper off Gemma’s ball. Finally, Sanika hit a four towards square leg off Monalisa’s ball to give India the win.

Brief Score: South Africa all out for 82 runs (Mieke van Voorst 23, Faye Cowling 15; Trisha Gongadi 3-15, Parunika Sisodia 2-6), India won the match by scoring 84 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in 11.2 overs. (Trisha Gongadi 44 not out, Sanika Chalke 26 not out) Kayla Reneke 1-14).
