Weekend Curfew: Case registered against 1,500 people for violating Covid rules in Delhi

New Delhi | The Delhi Police has registered a case against around 1,500 people for violating COVID norms on the first day of the weekend curfew in the national capital on January 8. An official gave this information on Sunday. “A total of 1,484 Covid challans were issued on Saturday, January 8,” the official said.

To prevent the further spread of COVID-19, a strict curfew is in force in the national capital from 10 pm on Friday till 5 am on Monday.

The official said that apart from violation of COVID rules, an FIR was registered against 384 people under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code. Due to the new Omicron variant, the situation arising out of infection with Covid-19 in Delhi is worsening day by day.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal while addressing the media said that there is no plan to lock down the city. He further informed that about 22,000 Kovid-19 cases are likely to be reported in Delhi on Sunday.

The police have requested the residents of the national capital to follow the weekend curfew guidelines and strictly adhere to the rules in force to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the Delhi government on Saturday announced a relaxation on the occasion of Prakash Parv of Guru Gobind Singh to be held on Sunda (January 9). The government has allowed devotees to visit the gurdwaras on the occasion of ‘Prakash Parab’ with strict adherence to the COVID guidelines and proper COVID behavior.

A notice issued by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority said, “The devotees will be allowed to visit Gurdwaras in Delhi on the occasion of Prakash Parv of Guru Gobind Singh Ji to be held on January 9, provided they are approved by the Government of India and the National Capital Territory of Delhi.” Strictly follow the guidelines issued by the government from time to time
