Corona: Supreme Court said, ‘Center should make uniform policy regarding death certificate’

New Delhi | The Supreme Court on Monday suggested to the Center that there should be a uniform policy regarding death certificate and also some guidelines to provide relief to the families of those who lost their lives due to corona. A bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan and Justice MR Shah said that at times the reasons given in the death certificate may be due to heart attack or lung damage, but maybe due to Covid.

The bench asked the counsel for the Center, “So, how are the death certificates being issued?”

The apex court issued a notice to the Center on a PIL seeking compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the families of each person who died due to Covid-19.

The petition filed on behalf of advocate Gaurav Kumar Bansal stated, “It is respectfully submitted that as per Section 12 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the National Disaster Management Authority’s fundamental duty is to provide a minimum standard of relief to the persons affected by the disaster. is.”

The petition filed by advocate Gaurav Kumar Bansal stated, “As per section 12 (3) of the Disaster Management Act 2005, NDMA is obliged to provide ex-gratia assistance to the persons affected by the disaster due to the loss.”

The bench asked the Center and the ICMR about the state policy regarding the Disaster Management Act, and also asked how the implementation of this policy works under the Act for payment of Rs 4 lakh to the kin of the deceased after the declaration of Kovid. Will do.

The Centre’s counsel sought three weeks to file an answer in the case, but the apex court asked him to file the reply in 10 days and asked ‘is there a uniform policy for issuing death certificate’.

The petition urged the apex court to issue directions to the central and state governments to provide social security and rehabilitation to the families of Covid-19 victims.
