New Delhi| In a major reshuffle, President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday appointed eight new governors and gave them charge of the administration of the new states, while several were transferred. PS Sreedharan Pillai was transferred as the Governor of Mizoram and appointed as the Governor of Goa. Haryana Governor Satyadev Narayan Arya has been transferred and appointed as the Governor of Tripura. Tripura Governor Ramesh Bais has been transferred and appointed as the Governor of Jharkhand. Himachal Pradesh Governor Bandaru Dattatreya has been transferred and appointed as the Governor of Haryana.
However, Thaawarchand Gehlot, who is currently serving as a cabinet minister, has been appointed as the Governor of Karnataka.
In addition, Hari Babu Kambhampati, Member of Parliament of the 16th Lok Sabha from Visakhapatnam, has been appointed as the Governor of Mizoram. Gujarat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel has been appointed as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh and former Goa President Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has been appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
The office of the President said that the appointments will be effective from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.
