New Delhi | Launching the Indian Space Association (ISPA) on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said his government has made space technology an important tool for last-mile delivery, leakage free and transparent governance in the last seven years. Virtually addressing the launch event, PM Modi said, “Our vision of a self-reliant India is a well-thought-out, well-planned integrated economic strategy, based on technological innovations. This will ensure that India becomes a hub for it as well. Play a vital role in global development… and therefore, the regulatory environment that we are enabling has served to ensure the interests of both the nation and the stakeholders.”
He cited the use of geo-tagging of housing units for the poor, roads and other infrastructure projects, how development projects are being monitored by satellite imaging, or even at the disposal of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (crop insurance). How space technology is being used.
Stating that the central government’s approach to space reforms is based on four pillars, the Prime Minister said that when we talk of space reforms, our approach is based on 4 pillars, the first being the need for innovation for the private sector. Freedom; role of government as an enabler; To prepare the youth for the future and to see the space sector as a resource for the progress of the common man.
He said that the foundation of these four pillars opens doors of extraordinary possibilities in itself.
Modi said that for India, the space sector is a major vehicle for the progress of 130 crore countrymen. He said that the space sector for India means better mapping, imaging and connectivity facilities for the common man. Also, space area means better speed. From shipment to delivery for entrepreneurs, it also means better protection and income for fishermen and better forecasting of natural disasters.
PM Modi further said, “When technology is accessible to everyone, then digital technology is another example of how changes can happen. Today, if India is one of the top digital economies of the world, then the big reason behind it is this. It is that we have made the power of data accessible to the poorest of the poor. So today as we are exploring the space for cutting-edge technology, we have to remember the citizen who stands on the last pedestal. We have to keep that with future technology, we have to provide the best remote healthcare, better virtual education, better and effective protection from natural calamities, many such solutions to every section of the country, every corner of the country, to the poorest of the poor in remote villages. Know that space technology can contribute a lot to this.”
PM Modi said that the government is moving ahead with a clear policy regarding public sector enterprises and opening up most of these sectors to private enterprises, where the government is not required. He said that the decision regarding Air India shows our commitment and seriousness.
He explained how Spacecom and remote sensing policies are being finalized with inputs from all stakeholders.
