New Delhi| Draupadi Murmu is ahead of her counterpart Yashwant Sinha in the first round of counting of votes for the post of President on Thursday. Out of total of 748 valid votes, Murmu got 540 votes and Yashwant Sinha got 208 votes. The total value of valid votes is 5,23,600.
The counting of votes for the presidential election began at the Parliament House in New Delhi on Thursday and is likely to end by evening.
Draupadi Murmu of the ruling NDA and Yashwant Sinha, supported by the opposition, are pitted against each other in the contest. The majority are clearly in favor of Murmu.
If elected, Murmu will be the first tribal woman to hold the top constitutional post in the country.
