More than 30 injured as subway train carriages separate in snowfall-hit Beijing

Beijing. More than 30 people were injured when a subway train compartment separated on the Changping Line in snowfall-hit Beijing on Thursday evening. Local officials gave this information.

The Beijing Municipal Transportation Commission said the accident occurred at 6:57 p.m. Rescue workers from emergency, fire, health, and traffic departments immediately arrived at the scene and carried out rescue operations, Xinhua News Agency reported.

The injured have been sent to the hospital for treatment. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

According to Beijing Subway, unaffected sections of the line remained operational. The company apologized for the accident and promised to bear the medical expenses of the injured passengers.

China’s capital has been hit by snowfall since Wednesday, affecting train operations and schools.

The city is still on orange alert for heavy snowfall.
