Delhi High Court granted bail to the riot accused of weak eyesight

NEW DELHI| The Delhi High Court has granted bail to an accused related to the Delhi riots. The court found that no such evidence had been found, indicating that he was ‘present at the scene’. Justice Suresh Kumar Kait of a single bench of the High Court granted bail to Syed Iftikar on a personal bond of Rs 15,000.

The bench found that it could not be believed that someone with such a weak vision could see anything clearly at night without glasses.

“Apart from this, CDR is not present, so that the petitioner was present at the scene,” the bench said.

The bench also said, “It is not disputed that the petitioner’s eyesight is weak (-3.75) and when he was arrested, he was wearing glasses. Though the petitioner was caught with co-accused Ali Hassan based on CCTV footage, But the fact is that the petitioner is not wearing glasses in the CCTV footage. ”

The petitioner was arrested under Section 147/148/149/436/380 of the Indian Penal Code.

While granting bail, the bench directed Syed that he should not be caught directly or indirectly influencing any witnesses or tampering with the evidence.
