New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah took a jab at the Congress party following its dismal performance in the recently concluded Legislative Council (MLC) elections, while highlighting the victory of the NDA (National Democratic Alliance).
In a post on the social media platform X, Amit Shah asked how many seats the Congress had won out of the 28—”Zero.” He added, “Ballot box, resign!”
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi took a dig at the opposition, noting that MLC elections were held for 28 seats across four major states—Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, and Karnataka. The elections were conducted using paper ballots. “Guess how many seats the Congress won?” he asked.
The Prime Minister’s remark addresses the opposition’s persistent claims of irregularities in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and their demand for a return to paper ballot-based elections.
Suvendu Adhikari (from West Bengal) echoed the Prime Minister’s sentiments.
Reposting the Prime Minister’s message on X, Suvendu Adhikari wrote that Prime Minister Narendra Modi hit the nail on the head: the Congress party failed to secure a single seat out of the 28 MLC seats across the four major states—Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, and Karnataka (where the Congress is in power). Not a single seat! And the biggest irony is that these elections were conducted using paper ballots, not EVMs!
He added that for years, whenever voters have decisively rejected the Congress, the party has resorted to its habitual excuse-making—blaming EVMs, peddling baseless conspiracy theories, and disparaging our democratic institutions. Now that the voting took place using paper ballots—and yet they failed to secure even a single seat—the false anti-EVM narrative has been completely shattered and consigned to the dustbin of history.
Whom will Rahul Gandhi and his associates blame this time? The ink on the ballot papers?
The Chief Minister stated that the message from the voters is clear: the people of India have completely rejected the Congress and its leadership. The chaos and disorder created by the Congress, the ‘INDIA’ alliance, and these ‘cockroaches’ could not harm the prospects of the NDA.
