Nishin, September 22 The Indian women’s cricket team won the gold medal for the second consecutive time at the Asian Games 2026. The Indian team put up a brilliant performance in the final, defeating Sri Lanka by 147 runs.
The Indian team has created history with this victory. This is Team India’s biggest win in T20 International cricket in terms of runs. Chasing a mammoth target of 217 runs, Sri Lanka was all out for just 69 runs. Previously, India had defeated Malaysia by 142 runs in the Asia Cup 2018.
The Indian team’s bowling performance was excellent in the final. Deepti Sharma took three wickets for just six runs in her four-over spell. Shefali Verma, Shreyanka Patil, and Sri Charani each took two wickets. Eight Sri Lankan batsmen failed to reach double figures. Kaushani Nuthyangana top-scored for the team with 14 runs.
Earlier, Team India’s batting was strong. Shefali Verma and Smriti Mandhana added 99 runs for the first wicket in 10 overs. Shefali batted brilliantly, scoring 48 runs from 29 balls. Mandhana, on the other hand, scored 79 runs from 45 balls. The Indian vice-captain hit 5 fours and 7 sixes in this innings.
Harmanpreet Kaur contributed 19 runs. Meanwhile, Richa Ghosh played an unbeaten innings of 49 runs from 22 balls in the final overs. Richa played at a strike rate of 222, hitting 6 fours and 3 sixes. She added 53 runs from 19 balls for the fourth wicket with Bharti Fulmali (7 not out). Despite losing in the final, Sri Lanka won the silver medal. Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by 31 runs to claim the bronze.
